ELCA Advocacy Offices and LRC Hold Reception at Churchwide,
At the 2011 ELCA Churchwide Assembly, ELCA advocacy offices and Lutherans Restoring Creation held a gathering to celebrate the growing care of creation ministry in the ELCA. The reception was held on Wednesday, August 17 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Jade Room of the Marriott World Center Resort, with light refreshments. The reception was set up to express ways in which ELCA offices and Lutherans Restoring Creation can support all the work going on in synods and congregations throughout the church.
The reception was announced from the plenary podium and about 50 people attended the reception. Resources were shared, and there was a sign-up sheet for ELCA advocacy network and LRC. Those who attended left better informed about what their church is trying to do with local green practices, and with the sense that they are not alone in their communities.
Bishops Boerger, Dunkin, Brauer-Rieke, and Anderson were present and there were brief presentations about issues, hopes, projects, and partnerships in each synod—ranging from mountain top mining to wind energy with the complexities of these issues noted within the general framework of necessity and hope for the future.
ELCA Director of Advocacy Andrew Genzler thanked the synods who passed resolutions and noted the current LRC pilot synods. He emphasized the connection between congregational practice and projects, and faithful and effective collective advocacy for policy change.
Our thanks to Andrew Genzler and Mary Minette of the ELCA Advocacy Offices and everyone involved in this event!
