Erik C. Backus

Erik Backus – Erik C. Backus, P.E., LEED AP, FMP, is a member of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity in Potsdam, NY and is the Howard E. Lechler Endowed Director of the Construction Engineering Management program at Clarkson University.  At Clarkson, Erik teaches courses and executes research/work in an array of topics related to the built environment.  Chief among these topics are issues related to sustainability, resilience, and life-cycle thinking of infrastructure and buildings.  He serves on the University Sustainability Committee and is an affiliate faculty in the Institute for a Sustainable Environment. 

Erik continues to serve as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve serving at the Pentagon and was recently appointed to the APPA Informatics Working Group.  He is also a past-member of the Faith Based Community Action Team for the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and is a nominee to be a Board Member for the Upstate NY Chapter of the USGBC.  For LRC, Erik attended his first Synod Trainer workshop at Mar-Lu Ridge in November of 2011 and again in August of 2013 at Gettysburg.  He has written a white paper/primer on sustainable worship space lighting and gave a “TIM Talk” (like a TED talk; available on YouTube) on Creation Care related to buildings and grounds in January 2014.
